Job summary

Axis Automation in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Level 3 Mechanical Engineer to design, integrate, and validate advanced automation systems. You will lead small projects, provide technical guidance, and support system deployment with a strong foundation in automation, robotics, and manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years in mechanical design and automation engineering.
• Expert CAD proficiency with SolidWorks or similar.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical components, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with robotics, pneumatics, and automation integration.
• Proficiency in GD&T and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead creation of equipment layouts, subassemblies, and automation systems with CAD.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to improve design feasibility and manufacturability.
• Maintain Axis standards and customer requirements for performance and reliability.
• Manage small-scale projects from concept to completion under Engineering Manager guidance.
• Present technical briefings to customers and stakeholders.
• Oversee build, assembly, and testing phases, addressing technical challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers to boost team skills and project success.
• Conduct risk assessments and design reviews to ensure safety and quality.
• Evaluate emerging technologies to improve design efficiency and leadership.
