Job summary

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated is seeking a Mechanical Engineer on the R&D team to design, analyze, prototype, and validate electro-mechanical systems for laboratory and field environments. The role focuses on new product development for advanced scientific instrumentation.

Candidates will work with cross-functional teams, create engineering drawings and BOMs, perform FEA, lead prototypes, and support DFM/DFT and stage-gate reviews while delivering reliable, high-performance products.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; combination of education and experience may be considered.
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience in scientific instrumentation or related systems.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and creating engineering drawings.
• Hands-on prototyping and testing experience.
• Background in CNC, sheet metal, injection molding, or additive manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of mechanics, materials, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
• Experience with design for reliability (DFR) and design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Ability to interpret GD&T and produce engineering documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electro-mechanical components and integrated systems for new products.
• Support existing products, troubleshoot issues, and address obsolescence risks.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, manufacturing, and quality teams to define specs.
• Create and maintain drawings, models, BOMs, and documentation.
• Perform structural, thermal, and vibration analyses including FEA.
• Lead prototype fabrication with 3D printing and external resources.
• Plan and execute verification and validation testing.
• Identify design risks and manufacturability challenges early.
