Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems in Plymouth, MN is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support our medium caliber ammunition development and production initiatives. You will work within an integrated product team, providing mechanical design-to-production engineering support and coordinating with multi-disciplinary locations.

The role requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering, 5+ years of relevant experience, strong communication, and readiness to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field.
• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, or 3 years with a master's.
• Ability to guide tasks, mentor, and coordinate other engineers.
• Experience communicating with customers, program management, and engineering management.
• Technical understanding of mechanical/electromechanical systems and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to work with multi-discipline teams remotely and build trust.
• Strong communication and MS Project proficiency; U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain clearance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Failure Analysis and Corrective Actions to resolve complex design issues.
• Provide mechanical design-to-production support for new/modified ammunition products.
• Direct engineering support to distributed manufacturing and test locations.
• Resolve manufacturing line process issues (machining, finishing, painting, heat treating, assembly).
• Evaluate tools and equipment; design/procure tooling and fixtures.
• Develop and improve manufacturing processes and release tasks into the system.
• Support Build Readiness and Production Readiness Reviews; create test requests.
