Qualifications

Responsibilities

Macan Deve Engineers, DPC (Macan Deve) is seeking a Full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of building mechanical systems, inclusive of HVAC and plumbing, for public-sector clients across New York City. We are a fast-growing, mission-driven firm, headquartered in White Plains, NY, delivering design, construction management, and design-build services to New York and New Jersey State and City agencies that are advancing resilience, energy efficiency, and greenhouse gas reduction goals such as those embodied in Local Law 97.

Position Overview

This is a design-leadership role reporting to the Mechanical Department Manager. The Senior Mechanical Engineer holds primary responsibility for the technical quality, code compliance, and timely delivery of HVAC and plumbing designs—from concept through construction documents and construction-phase support—leads interdisciplinary coordination on assigned projects, and directs and mentors a team of junior engineers and designers. The position is mainly office-based within a hybrid work environment (minimum two days per week in the office; remote work permitted as work schedule and workload allow), with periodic site visits across the NYC metropolitan region.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as lead mechanical engineer on multiple concurrent projects; establish design criteria, select systems, and perform load, energy, and equipment-sizing calculations for HVAC and central plant systems (boilers, chillers, heat pumps), plumbing systems (domestic water, sanitary, storm, fuel gas), and building electrification.
• Direct and review the work of junior engineers and designers: assign tasks, set priorities, check calculations and drawings, and develop staff through mentoring and feedback.
• Prepare and seal construction documents—Revit/AutoCAD drawings, specifications, schedules, and calculations—in compliance with the NYC Mechanical, Plumbing, Fuel Gas, and Energy Conservation Codes, ASHRAE standards, and client design guidelines.
• Lead energy audits, feasibility studies, and decarbonization/electrification assessments, including Local Law 97 compliance.
• Own interdisciplinary coordination for assigned projects: integrate HVAC and plumbing design with electrical, fire protection, structural, and architectural disciplines, resolve conflicts, and lead BIM coordination.
• Manage mechanical scope, budget, and schedule on assigned projects; represent the firm in client meetings and design reviews.
• Support construction-phase services: submittal and RFI review, site observation, and start-up/commissioning oversight.
• Contribute to firm-wide engineering and CAD/BIM standards, QA/QC procedures, and Design-Build proposal development.
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related discipline) from an ABET-accredited program.
• New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license, or a PE license in another state with the ability to obtain NYS licensure by endorsement within 12 months of hire.
• 10–15 years of progressive experience designing building/facility HVAC and plumbing systems, including at least 3 years as lead mechanical engineer or discipline lead on projects.
• Demonstrated experience supervising, reviewing, and mentoring junior engineering and design staff.
• Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; working knowledge of load and energy modeling tools (e.g., Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP).
• Thorough knowledge of NYC Mechanical, Plumbing, Fuel Gas, and Energy Conservation Codes, ASHRAE 90.1/62.1, and NFPA.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present technical recommendations to clients and agency stakeholders.

• Work Arrangement:Hybrid (minimum two days per week in office)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with public-sector clients (NYPA, NYCHA, DEP, DDC, SCA, or similar) and with design-build project delivery.
• Experience with central plant modifications, heat pump/electrification retrofits, CHP, and Local Law 97 compliance strategies.
• LEED AP, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or ASHRAE (BEMP, HBDP) certification; familiarity with Bluebeam and Navisworks.

Compensation and Benefits
