ABOUT THE ROLE
Kadir.ai is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Engineer for an early-stage robotics company developing humanoid robots and learning systems for the physical world.
This is a senior, hands-on engineering role focused on designing compact and reliable mechanisms for robotic manipulation. The selected engineer will own mechanical systems from initial concepts through detailed design, prototyping, testing, failure investigation, validation, and preparation for manufacturing.
This role requires more than analysis or ownership of an isolated component. The ideal candidate has personally built complex robotic or electromechanical hardware and demonstrates strong full-system engineering judgment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop robotic mechanisms from early concepts through validated prototypes
- Design actuated joints, transmissions, structures, end effectors, and manipulation hardware
- Integrate motors, bearings, sensors, actuators, and structural components into compact assemblies
- Perform detailed machine design, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and material selection
- Build and test prototypes in a hands-on laboratory environmentInvestigate mechanical failures and implement design improvements
- Validate performance, durability, reliability, and manufacturability
- Develop engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and assembly documentation
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, firmware, software, and manufacturing engineers
- Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to move successful prototypes toward production
- Make informed design tradeoffs involving weight, strength, packaging, cost, and performance
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Five or more years of experience developing electromechanical hardware
- Experience designing robotic manipulators, actuated joints, transmissions, or comparable mechanisms
- Advanced knowledge of GD&T and tolerance analysis
- Expert proficiency with a major CAD platform and product-data-management workflow
- Demonstrated experience taking hardware from concept through prototype, testing, and validation
- Hands-on experience building, assembling, troubleshooting, and improving physical systems
- Strong understanding of manufacturing methods and design for manufacturability
- Ability to work effectively across mechanical, electrical, controls, firmware, and manufacturing teams
- Ability to work full-time and onsite in New York City
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with FEA, lightweight structures, and structural optimization
- Experience selecting and integrating motors, bearings, sensors, and actuators
- Experience working with suppliers and production partners
- Familiarity with CNC machining, additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and precision assembly
- Previous experience at an early-stage robotics or advanced-hardware company
- Experience preparing designs for low-volume or scaled production
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, or a related field
- A master’s degree or equivalent advanced technical experience is preferred
