Job description

We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our client's team and take ownership of mechanical system design for complex, high-stakes facilities — think data centers, hospitals, labs, and other environments where uptime and reliability aren't optional. This role is a great fit for an engineer with roughly 6-12 years of HVAC and plumbing design experience who's ready to take on more ownership and specialize in mission-critical environments. Prior experience with data centers or healthcare facilities is a strong plus, but it's not required.

What You'll Do
  • Design and develop HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems for new construction, renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and facility assessments
  • Evaluate and select cooling and air distribution strategies (including precision cooling, chilled water, and redundant system configurations) for mission-critical applications
  • Size and specify major mechanical equipment, and develop equipment schedules and specifications
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, structural, architectural, and other disciplines to ensure integrated, buildable solutions
  • Lead or support QA/QC reviews to ensure drawings and calculations meet internal standards and code requirements
  • Participate in client meetings, design coordination sessions, and construction site visits to monitor installation quality and progress
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers on system layout, sizing, and design best practices
  • Assist with field verification, existing conditions surveys, and data collection for renovation or retrofit projects
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal input and client relationship building, as your role grows
  • Stay current on industry codes, standards, and emerging technologies relevant to critical facilities (e.g., data center cooling trends, healthcare-specific mechanical/medical gas requirements)
What You Bring
  • Approximately 6-12 years of experience designing HVAC and/or plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, or industrial buildings
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license, or active progress toward one, is preferred
  • Experience with data center, healthcare, or other mission-critical facility design is preferred but not required — we're happy to help you build this expertise
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, local building/health codes, etc.)
  • Proficiency with mechanical design and modeling software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, load calculation tools)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams
What Sets You Up to Succeed Here
  • A collaborative mindset — you enjoy working across disciplines and building strong relationships with clients and trade partners
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving instincts when navigating complex, high-consequence design challenges
  • Comfort managing multiple projects and priorities without losing sight of quality or deadlines
  • An interest in mentoring less experienced team members and helping them develop technically
  • A genuine curiosity about mission-critical environments and a desire to deepen your expertise in data centers, healthcare, or both
  • Self-direction paired with a willingness to ask questions and seek guidance when working in an unfamiliar building type
