Job summary

Genesis AEC, a leader in life sciences design-build, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead a design team and deliver high-quality HVAC and central utility system design for pharmaceutical facilities.

You will coordinate multi-discipline teams, develop complex calculations, and support client relationships and business opportunities in a hybrid Boston-area setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10+ years of relevant experience with increasing responsibilities.
• Deep familiarity with Pharma, Biotech, Life Science, and Laboratory industries.
• Proficiency in HVAC load calculations and energy software.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain client relationships and support business development.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee a mechanical design team for high-quality project delivery.
• Develop and review HVAC load calculations, fan static pressure analysis, and hydraulic calculations.
• Coordinate scheduling of field surveys and layout design of HVAC/Central Utility systems.
• Collaborate with architects, other disciplines, clients, operations, and contractors.
• Conduct facility infrastructure assessments and energy evaluations.
• Develop airflow diagrams, pressurization plans, and zoning plans for life science apps.
• Prepare equipment specifications and review submittals; respond to RFIs; manage punch lists.
• Assist the Chief Automation Engineer in Instrumentation and Control design for mechanical systems.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Lead and oversee a mechanical design team consisting of Project Engineers and Designers to ensure high-quality project delivery.


• Drive the development and review of complex engineering calculations, including HVAC load calculations, fan static pressure analysis, hydraulic calculations/modeling, and isometric analyses by Project Mechanical Engineers.


• Coordinate scheduling of field surveys and support the development of HVAC and Central Utility system layout and design, in collaboration with theProject Mechanical Engineer and Mechanical Designers.


• Coordinate closely with multi-disciplinary teams – including architects, other engineering disciplines, client representatives, facility operations, and contractors – to ensure cohesive project integration.


• Conduct facility infrastructure assessments, infrastructure/utility master planning, and perform code and energy evaluations.


• Lead the development of airflow diagrams, pressurization plans, zoning plans, and classification plans for Pharmaceutical and Life Science applications.


• Lead the development of equipment specifications, based on company standards, and in coordination with specific client and equipment vendor requirements.


• Manage the review of equipment submittals and shop drawings, prepare timely responses to RFI’s, and create punch list development and resolution.


• Assist the Chief Automation Engineer in the development of Instrumentation and Control Design for Mechanical systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering


• 10+ years of relevant experience with increasing responsibilities


• Deep familiarity with Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Life Science, and Laboratory industries, with insight into client priorities, compliance standards, and market dynamics


• Proficiency in computerized HVAC load calculation and energy software


• Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development initiatives, including identifying project opportunities and supporting proposal efforts.


• Expertise in Mechanical systems design and engineering, including chilled water plants, steam and hot water boiler plants, custom and semi-custom air handling units, direct expansion (DX) system design, pumps, duct and air distribution systems, piping systems, and DDC control systems.


• Proficiency with MS Office and Adobe Professional software


• Strong leadership and collaboration skills


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with client-facing roles and proposal development


• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff in client relationship development and support their involvement in business development activities


• PE License
