Job summary

Genesis AEC in Medford, MA is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead facility-level electrical design for medium- and low-voltage systems, including power distribution, generators, UPS, and life-safety systems.

You will manage project teams, coordinate with architects and clients, and perform complex electrical calculations. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 7–10+ years of relevant experience in electrical design for building systems.
• Proficiency with SKM Power*Tools, MS Office, and Adobe/Bluebeam.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead facility-level electrical design for 35kV and below.
• Manage project teams and budgets from conception through operation.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, architects, client representatives, and contractors.
• Perform electrical system calculations (load, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash).
• Write equipment specifications and review submittals; respond to RFIs; create punch lists.
• Provide mentorship to junior designers and engineers.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Ensure responsibilityfor facility-level electrical design and engineering for medium-voltage and low-voltage systems (35kV and below), including power distribution systems, emergency generators, UPS systems, lighting fixtures and controls, fire alarm systems, and motor controls.
• Manage project teams of electrical engineers and designers
• Manage project scope and budgets, from conception through successful operation
• Conduct facility infrastructure assessments, infrastructure/utility master planning, field surveys, and code and energy evaluations.
• Coordinate with other discipline engineers, architects, client representation, facility operation personnel, and contractors
• Using computer-based programs, perform electrical system calculations, including load analysis, short circuit calculations, protective device coordination studies, and arc flash studies.
• Write equipment specifications, based on company standards, and as coordinated with specific client and equipment vendor requirements.
• Review equipment submittals and shop drawings; prepare responses to contractor RFI’s; and create punch lists based on field observation.
• Provide mentorship or leadership to junior designers and/or engineers

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline
• 7 - 10+ years of relevant experience in electrical design and engineering, focused on building systems
• Proficiency in SKM Power*Tools software, MS Office, and Adobe Professional / Blue Beam
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize multiple projects, and adjust work against tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Life Science, and Laboratory industries, healthcare, micro-electronic, or electronic clean room experience is desirable
• A focus on mission-critical data centers or hospitals, plus other relevant industries
• AutoCAD / REVIT experience is preferred.
• P.E. registration, or a path to receiving it
• Ability to assist with business development by nurturing relationships with clients and writing proposals
• Ability to lead in-house training seminars
