Compensation
- Salary: $130,000+ (Competitive salary with bonus opportunities)
- Benefits: Comprehensive package including employer-subsidized medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, 401(k) matching, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, educational assistance, paid time off, parental leave, and 12 paid holidays.
- Travel: This role requires up to 50% travel.

Key Responsibilities
1. System Design
Layout Development
- Develop detailed 3D models using Autodesk Revit or AutoCAD for system layouts.
- Design piping systems (chilled water, hot water, steam, compressed air, natural gas, fuel oil), HVAC, and ventilation systems.
- Coordinate with architectural and structural teams to ensure spatial integration and clash detection.
Calculations
- Perform thermal load and energy calculations
- Size equipment (e.g., gas-fired turbines, steam turbines, water tube boilers, fire tube boilers, heat recovery steam generators) based on load demands.
- Validate designs for efficiency, compliance with codes (e.g., ASHRAE, ASME), and project requirements.
Interdisciplinary Coordination
- Collaborate with internal teams (architectural, electrical, civil) and external consultants to align system designs.
- Conduct regular design reviews to ensure compatibility across disciplines.
2. Design Review and Management
- Review Mechanical Designs:
- Evaluate designs for piping, HVAC, and power generation systems (turbines, boilers, HRSGs).
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, basis of design (BOD) documents, and system narratives.
- Manage Documentation:
- Develop and maintain system layouts, specifications, and narratives for projects of varying scales.
- Update design documents to reflect revisions or as-built conditions.
3. Subcontractor and Procurement Support
- Bid Package Development:
- Prepare detailed subcontract bid packages for mechanical systems and critical equipment.
- Engage with subcontractors to clarify scope, specifications, and expectations.
- Equipment Procurement:
- Create Request for Proposal (RFP) packages for equipment (e.g., turbines, boilers, pumps).
- Evaluate vendor proposals and assist in equipment selection based on performance, cost, and reliability.
4. System Application and Operation
- Define operational parameters and sequences of operation for mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with SCADA subcontractors to develop points lists for control systems.
- Conduct walkthroughs to verify critical operational points and system integration.
- SCADA Integration:
- Ensure SCADA systems align with mechanical designs for real-time monitoring and control.
5. Quality Assurance and Control (QA/QC)
- Internal QA/QC:
- Perform quality checks on designs, calculations, and documentation.
- Review peer and consultant work to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Field Investigations:
- Conduct site assessments and inspections to verify existing conditions.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports with findings and recommendations.
6. Construction Administration
- Field Support:
- Process Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals promptly to minimize delays.
- Reduce design revisions during implementation through proactive coordination.
- Commissioning and Testing:
- Participate in system commissioning and performance testing to verify functionality.
- Document test results and address any deficiencies.
7. Project Scheduling and Coordination
- Schedule Updates:
- Collaborate with construction teams to update project schedules.
- Ensure mechanical design milestones align with overall project timelines.
- Customer Relationship Management:
- Maintain clear communication with owners, builders, architects, and vendors.
- Manage expectations and provide updates throughout the project lifecycle.
8. Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as required, including supporting project closeout, training, or troubleshooting.
- Adapt to project-specific needs to ensure successful delivery and client satisfaction.
Qualifications & Requirements
Must Have:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license with a focus in Mechanical Engineering (ideally in VT, NH, MA, or ME).
- Minimum of five years of experience designing HVAC systems in New England, with complete responsibility from initial concept to final commissioning.

- OSHA 30 certification.
- Ability to provide occasional on-call response beyond traditional business hours.
