Job summary

RLF is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer/Designer to lead the design and coordination of plumbing and fire suppression systems on healthcare and federal projects. You will guide junior staff, develop construction documents, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, constructible designs.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical design, code compliance, and project leadership, with a hybrid office schedule (In-office Tue, Wed, Thu; WFH Mon, Fri).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant mechanical engineering or plumbing/fire protection design experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Sustainability credential (LEED AP, Green Globes Professional, or similar) preferred.
• Experience designing plumbing and fire suppression systems, including equipment and piping sizing.
• Working knowledge of ASPE, NFPA, IBC, FBC, UFC codes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and coordination of plumbing and fire suppression systems from concept to construction.
• Provide technical leadership, direction, and mentorship to engineers and designers.
• Coordinate with project teams, clients, architects, and contractors throughout design and construction.
• Prepare construction documents, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
• Lead construction administration activities and respond to RFIs.
