Job summary

Vanderweil Engineers Llp in Boston, MA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Piping Designer to join the Power Group, offering a hybrid work arrangement. You will produce piping/ductwork drawings for cogeneration, heating/cooling, and renewable systems, and develop 3D models and skid designs, coordinating with other trades.

The role demands 3–7+ years, ASME standards knowledge, and fluency with AutoCAD and Revit, plus strong problem solving and teamwork abilities.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent from a vocational training program or technical school.
• 3 to 7 plus years’ experience desirable.
• Knowledge of ASME codes and industry piping standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Revit strongly preferred.
• Motivated and self-sufficient, strong computer skills and detail-oriented perspectives.
• Ability to work individually or in a team setting with strong interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
• Customer service perspective with the ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients.
• Knowledge in MS Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Produce drawings and design of piping and ductwork systems for industrial projects such as cogeneration power plants, central heating and cooling plants, renewable energy systems and large chillers and boilers
• Develop equipment general arrangement drawings, piping plans and section drawings
• Develop 3D model of design
• Design and model equipment skids, selection and design of pipe supports
• Coordinate layout of mechanical equipment and routing of piping, ductwork, and miscellaneous components with other trades
• Create and modify technical drawings and schematics from engineer markups using AutoCAD and REVIT
• Assure designs are complete, accurate and in accordance with good engineering practice
• Review project files for compliance with company and/or client standards and procedures
• May travel to project sites to observe existing conditions
• Review equipment and component submittals for compatibility with design
• Locate pipe supports based on general rules of thumb. Engineer to finalize support design and locations
• Locate instruments on piping plans based on P&IDs
• Provide feedback to engineers regarding feasibility of arrangements and design
• Attend client/contractor review meetings
• Oversee and check the work of junior designers
• Other duties as assigned

The compensation that we expect to pay for this position is commensurate with years of experience, professional licensure, and education and is expected to range from $90,000 to $110,000 annually, plus benefits.
