Job summary

GABLETEK in Lake Orion, Michigan is seeking a Mechanical Engineer specializing in automation and tooling, with extensive CATIA experience to design BIW tooling and automated assembly systems.

You will create 3D models and drawings, perform GD&T analyses, validate designs, and collaborate with controls, electrical, and manufacturing teams through installation and launch phases. This hands-on role drives concepts from concept through installation and interfacing with suppliers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Approximately 10 years of mechanical design experience.
• Advanced proficiency with CATIA and 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA.
• Strong experience designing BIW tooling.
• Understanding of GD&T, manufacturing processes, and machine design.
• Experience designing automation equipment, tooling, or general assembly systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems, tooling, and automation equipment using CATIA.
• Create 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Develop innovative design concepts for automated assembly and manufacturing systems.
• Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and design validation.
• Support prototype builds, testing, and equipment validation.
• Collaborate with controls, electrical, manufacturing, and project engineering teams.
• Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet project requirements.
• Review drawings, BOMs, and specifications for accuracy and quality; track engineering changes and maintain project documentation.
• Support equipment installation, launch activities, and engineering changes as required.
