Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Approximately 10 years of mechanical design experience.
• Advanced proficiency with CATIA and 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA.
• Experience designing BIW tooling and automation equipment.
• Understanding of GD&T, manufacturing processes, and machine design.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Automotive manufacturing experience and OEM design standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems, tooling, and automation equipment using CATIA
• Create 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation
• Develop innovative design concepts for automated assembly and manufacturing systems
• Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and design validation
• Support prototype builds, testing, and equipment validation
• Collaborate with controls, electrical, manufacturing, and project engineering teams
• Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet project requirements
• Review drawings, BOMs, and specifications for accuracy and quality
• Track engineering changes and maintain project documentation throughout the design lifecycle
• Support equipment installation, launch activities, and engineering changes as required

Mechanical Engineer – Automation & Tooling (CATIA)

Location: Lake Orion, MI

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Mechanical Engineers to support the design and development of automation equipment and BIW tooling for a major automotive manufacturing program. This role is ideal for engineers with a strong mechanical design background, extensive CATIA experience, and knowledge of body-in-white (BIW) tooling and automated assembly systems.

This is a hands‑on engineering position working closely with cross‑functional teams to design, validate, and support custom automation equipment from concept through installation.

• Knowledge of automated assembly systems and industrial manufacturing
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

  Schedule

  • Standard schedule of 40–45 hours per week
  • Overtime available, with workloads reaching 50–55 hours per week during installation and launch
