Job summary

GableTek in Southfield, MI, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer / Checker with deep BIW tooling experience. You will design and verify fixtures, framing lines, and weld tooling for automotive body shop applications using NX CAD, ensuring NAAMS and GM standards compliance.

Hybrid schedule: 4 days onsite and 1 day remote, with ~40 hours weekly and occasional overtime. Strong CAD skills, checker mindset, and collaboration with engineers are essential to succeed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mechanical design/checking experience within automotive BIW tooling and fixtures.
• Strong NX CAD experience and GM BIW tooling design background.
• Knowledge of NAAMS standards and North American automotive standards.
• Ability to interpret customer specifications and create tooling from concepts.
• Experience with geometry-setting fixtures, framing lines, bodyside systems, and sub-assembly tooling.

Responsibilities

• Design and check mechanical tooling and fixtures for BIW assembly systems.
• Develop 3D models, 2D drawings, specs, and layouts using NX CAD.
• Design and modify tooling for geometry stations, framing lines, bodyside, sub-assembly.
• Create kit sheets documenting before/after tooling modifications.
• Review CAD drawings against customer requirements and project standards.
• Coordinate with technical leaders and suppliers in CAD environments.
• Assist with installation, startup, commissioning, and final machine acceptance when required.
