Job description

Contract duration: 12 month contract with potential to extend or convert

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of mechanical systems for semiconductor and other high-tech facilities. This role requires strong expertise in HVAC and mechanical systems design, with extensive hands-on experience using Revit and AutoCAD for modeling and drafting. The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently with minimal supervision, translating engineering direction into complete design deliverables, coordinating designs across multiple disciplines, and reviewing the work of other designers for accuracy and completeness. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of mechanical systems, buildings, or project areas while collaborating closely with engineers, designers, owners, and other project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, and publish project deliverables including drawings, details, models, plans, and supporting documentation.
  • Create detailed mechanical system layouts and designs for high-tech and semiconductor facilities.
  • Develop Revit models and AutoCAD drawings throughout various project phases.
  • Design and coordinate HVAC and related mechanical systems, including conveyance and equipment layouts.
  • Prepare plans, details, sections, flow diagrams, P&IDs, sketches, and equipment arrangement diagrams.
  • Work directly with engineers and project leads to identify project goals, understand system requirements, and advance designs.
  • Perform code research and participate in discussions regarding applicable codes and standards.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs and deliverables with architectural, structural, electrical, process, and other disciplines.
  • Utilize Navisworks for model review, coordination, and conflict detection.
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts, coordination issues, and discrepancies with existing field conditions.
  • Perform field surveys of existing conditions when required.
  • Review specifications and incorporate applicable requirements into design deliverables.
  • Participate in internal and external mechanical design meetings and project status updates.
  • Review designs and deliverables produced by entry- and intermediate-level designers for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers and engineers within the mechanical discipline.
  • Take verbal direction and independently move projects forward with minimal supervision.
  • Support design development while meeting project schedules and quality requirements.
  • Assist with engineering calculations under the direction of a project engineer, as needed.
  • Prepare labor estimates for assigned tasks.
  • Review and process submittal documents.
  • Respond promptly to design coordination requests, information requests, and conflict-resolution issues.
  • Support project proposals, meetings, and construction documentation.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Computer Drafting & Design, a similar drafting/design program, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design/drafting.
  • Proven experience designing building mechanical systems for semiconductor, high-tech, or similarly complex facilities.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Revit and AutoCAD or comparable design/drafting software.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC and related mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, mechanical codes, and industry standards.
  • Advanced proficiency with Navisworks for model review and coordination.
  • Experience creating and coordinating detailed mechanical models, drawings, plans, sections, details, and other project deliverables.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take ownership of assigned design responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary design coordination.
  • Ability to identify and resolve design conflicts and coordination issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to back-check designs for accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain design quality.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Semiconductor fabrication facilities or semiconductor manufacturing environments.
  • Advanced manufacturing, data centers, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other high-tech facilities.
  • Experience serving as a lead mechanical designer for a building, level, system, or project area.
  • Experience overseeing or reviewing the work of junior/intermediate designers.
  • Experience with both wet-side and dry-side mechanical systems.
  • Experience coordinating with engineers, owners, contractors, and other disciplines.
  • Familiarity with P&IDs, equipment arrangement diagrams, flow diagrams, and construction documentation.
  • Experience conducting field surveys and documenting existing conditions.
