Job summary

Power Design is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer in St. Petersburg, FL to lead HVAC and mechanical systems design for large-scale design-build projects, balancing innovation, energy efficiency, and constructability.

You will mentor junior designers, coordinate with architects, structural, plumbing and electrical teams, perform load calculations, selections, and documentation using Revit and AutoCAD, and ensure code compliance.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of mechanical design experience supporting commercial, multifamily, hospitality, healthcare, data center, or mixed-use projects.
• Advanced knowledge of HVAC and mechanical design principles, system sizing, equipment selection, and applicable building codes.
• Proficiency in Revit, and Bluebeam; experience with project management platforms such as Fieldwire is a plus.
• Experience designing systems including DX, VRF/VRV, chilled water, hydronic, packaged rooftop units, and other commercial HVAC applications.
• Strong understanding of constructability, coordination, and installation methods within a design-build environment.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or EIT certification is preferred, but not required.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to lead projects and mentor team members.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality design solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the design and documentation of HVAC and mechanical systems, including air distribution, hydronic, ventilation, exhaust, and specialty systems.
• Provide direction and mentorship to junior designers and engineers to ensure accuracy, efficiency and quality of deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with IMC, IBC, ASHRAE and other mechanical design standards.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, plumbing, electrical, and other disciplines to ensure integration and consistency.
• Prepare and review drawings, specifications, calculations, and design documentation using Revit, AutoCAD and related software.
• Perform HVAC load calculations, equipment selections, duct and piping sizing, and system performance evaluations.
• Support project estimating with accurate system information and constructability recommendations.
• Manage multiple projects with schedules, budgets and client expectations.
• Drive innovation, value engineering and continuous improvement in mechanical design workflows.
• Participate in client meetings and provide technical expertise to resolve design and coordination challenges.
• Promote safety-first culture by ensuring designs support safe installation practices.

About the PositionAs a Senior Mechanical Designer at Power Design, you'll lead the design, coordination, and development of HVAC and mechanical systems for large-scale design-build and multi-discipline projects.
