Job summary

GrayLineX is seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead and manage multiple design projects in alignment with the VA PMP. The role ensures timely completion, cost control, and compliance with planning and design standards while coordinating with the PDT to capture input from relevant departments.

The position requires at least five years of design project management experience, a ME degree, and a PE license preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer license preferred.
• Minimum five years of experience managing design projects.
• Ability to read and interpret acquisition policy, regulations and directives.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned design projects consistent with the planning and design goals and standards of the VA PMP; ensure completion on time and within budget.
• Coordinate with the Project Development Team to define project scope reflecting input from relevant departments.
• Apply project management standards and adapt procedures to meet deadlines.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager and Contracting Officer to select qualified engineers/architects as designer of record within cost/time constraints.
• Oversee DOR and consultants to ensure quality design within contract cost and schedule; lead design reviews and cross-functional meetings.
• Provide input to develop design/construction standards aligned with BA sustainability plans and occupancy readiness.
• Develop systems to monitor design against budget and schedules.
• Lead timely decisions and act as a solution consultant to engineers, architects, and consultants.
• Review contracts, scopes, specs, and codes to ensure milestones and deliverables meet requirements.
• Support PDT with tasks required to deliver a complete design and PMP.
