Job summary

MSI Defense Solutions in Mooresville, NC is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to drive the development and execution of vehicle subsystems, generate CAD models, and fully define the bill of materials for production. The role emphasizes GD&T, ASME Y14.5, and skeleton modeling within Creo.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or similar.
• Minimum 5 years in automotive, motorsports or defense vehicle related field.
• Experience with sheet metal, weldments, and machined parts is a plus.
• Minimum 3 years as high-level CAD user (CREO Preferred).
• Minimum of 1 year of PDM experience (Windchill Preferred).
• Experience in FEA (Ansys) is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience designing and analyzing automotive components and systems.
• Highly motivated, organized, and responsible.
• Ability to interact with all types of people under pressure.
• Knowledge of machining practices, industry workings, fabrication shop procedures.
• Must be able to verify U.S. Person Status as defined by ITAR.
• Ability to obtain security clearance if deemed necessary for position.

Responsibilities

• Review project design requirements and justify designs during preliminary and critical reviews.
• Create CAD models and fully define the BOM for production.
• Develop the drawing package used to convey requirements to the production team.
• Ensure designs meet project goals and report status to the Project Manager.
• Collaborate with the Engineering Team to promote knowledge and continuous improvement.
• Support manufacturing in prototype development and validate design feasibility.
