Job summary

MSI Defense Solutions in Mooresville, NC seeks a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of defense systems and vehicle sub-systems.

You will develop CAD models, ensure BOM accuracy, and support manufacturing during prototyping while reporting progress to the Director of Engineering Operations. The role requires 8+ years in defense/automotive, strong Creo skills, GD&T, and experience with Aligned FEA (Ansys) as well as Windchill for PDM.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years in defense vehicle, automotive, or motorsports or related field.
• Experience with sheet metal, weldments, fabrication and machined parts is a plus.
• Minimum 3 years as high-level CAD user (CREO Preferred).
• Minimum of 1 year of PDM experience (Windchill Preferred).
• Experience in FEA (Ansys) is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience designing and analyzing automotive components and systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of defense systems and vehicle sub-systems, ensuring they meet specifications and performance requirements.
• Coordinate reviews: SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR and Stage Gate; understand NPI process.
• Develop CAD models and manage BOMs and drawings for manufacturing and configuration management.
• Provide project status updates to the Project Manager and support manufacturing in prototypes.
• Collaborate with engineering and other departments to improve processes and design knowledge.
