Job summary

MSI Defense Solutions is seeking a Design Engineer II to independently design and develop vehicle components in CAD, manage BOMs, and ensure manufacturability and timely delivery. The role reports to the Director of Engineering Operations and requires a full-time shop/office presence.

Ideal candidates have a BS in mechanical or automotive engineering and 2+ years in relevant automotive, motorsports, or defense fields, with strong CREO and PDM experience; familiarity with FEA is a plus.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or similar.
• Minimum 2+ years in automotive, motorsports or defense vehicle related field.
• Experience with sheet metal, weldments, and machined parts is a plus.
• Strong CAD experience (CREO preferred).
• Minimum 2+ years of PDM experience (Windchill preferred).
• Experience in FEA (Ansys) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Independently design and develop vehicle components and subsystems in CAD.
• Own and manage BOM development and drawing packages.
• Ensure designs meet performance, cost, manufacturability, and schedule requirements.
• Apply GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards in all designs.
• Perform engineering analysis (FEA, hand calculations) to validate designs.
• Interface with Project Managers for schedule updates and technical input.
• Support prototype builds and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to support part fabrication.
• Identify design improvements and contribute new design concepts.
• Mentor DE-1 Engineers on CAD practices and engineering fundamentals.
