Job summary

Intuitive Surgical in Sunnyvale seeks a hands-on Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to deliver complex mechanical and electromechanical solutions for robotic surgical instruments across the product lifecycle. You will design, prototype, test, validate, and document systems with a focus on reliability and manufacturability.

You will collaborate with software, electrical, and clinical teams, drive concept-to-launch in regulated environments, and contribute to IP strategy while mentoring teammates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 6+ years in mechanical design for medical devices.
• Experience with FDA/IEC standards is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop robotic surgical instrument systems end-to-end.
• Translate requirements into robust mechanical designs and tolerances.
• Generate test protocols and analyze results to drive design decisions.
• Create and maintain CAD data, BOMs, and manufacturing docs.
• Collaborate with software, electrical, and clinical teams.
• Lead technical reviews and mentor junior engineers.
