Job summary

Intuitive in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a hands-on Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to develop robotic surgical instruments. You will lead complex mechanical systems from concept to verification, collaborating with software, electrical, clinical and manufacturing teams.

Bring a 6+ year track record in precision mechanical design, a BS/MS in engineering, solid SolidWorks skills, experience with FEA, GD&T, and familiarity with FDA ISO standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (or related). Advanced degree is a plus.
• 6+ years designing mechanical engineering products or relevant engineering experience (medical device industry preferred).
• Expertise in high-precision mechanisms, electromechanical systems, and tight tolerances.
• Proven ability to drive new product ideas from concept to launch in regulated environments.
• Strong CAD skills, especially SolidWorks; prototyping capability.
• Experience with FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, IEC 60601 is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop robotic surgical instruments in cross-functional teams.
• Translate user requirements into design solutions and prototypes.
• Create manufacturing documentation and BOMs; document tests and validations.
• Lead design reviews, risk analyses, and regulatory compliance activities.
• Iterate prototypes and evaluate design assumptions with clinical input.
