Job summary

QuantumScape is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to own the mechanical design of custom automation equipment across the full lifecycle, from concept through production handoff. You will work with systems, controls, electrical, process, and EHS teams to define architecture, manage design risk, and deliver robust, manufacturable solutions for scale‑up of solid-state battery technology.

The role emphasizes hands-on problem solving, mentoring, and creating standards for mechanical design

Qualifications

• Master's in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 3+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's with 5+ years
• Hands-on experience designing complex mechanical systems for automation equipment
• Experience with machining, additive manufacturing, and sheet metal fabrication
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools to produce production-ready models and assemblies
• Strong knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T and its application to drawings
• Ability to work independently and mentor others across teams

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of first‑of‑a‑kind automation and process equipment
• Own mechanical design scope end-to-end from concept to handoff to manufacturing
• Drive hands-on design, prototyping, and validation for scalable production
• Define mechanical architecture and interfaces with DFM/DFA and safety in mind
• Collaborate with systems, controls, electrical, process, manufacturing, and EHS teams
• Provide technical leadership and help shape mechanical design standards
