Job summary

SOC LLC in Wilmington, NC seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a 6+ month contract with possible conversion to full-time. An active DOE Q or Top-Secret clearance is required to be considered.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the development of mechanical systems for a first-of-a-kind uranium enrichment technology program, owning concepts through fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning. You will coordinate with multiple disciplines and mentor design staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical design and product development experience, with leadership of complex programs.
• Experience developing mechanical equipment from concept through fabrication and testing.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and manufacturing drawings.
• Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance.
• Experience with structural/stress, thermal, and finite element analysis.
• Experience with vacuum/gas handling systems and nuclear environments is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical concepts and design solutions based on system requirements.
• Establish mechanical requirements, interfaces, and design basis inputs.
• Perform first-principles engineering calculations to verify performance.
• Conduct structural, stress, and thermal analyses and finite element analysis.
• Coordinate designers in developing CAD models, drawings, and documentation.
• Lead design reviews and resolve technical risks.
• Support procurement, fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Evaluate test results and incorporate lessons learned into design.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and mentors engineers.
• Develop mechanical engineering standards and practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
