Job summary

TerraPower in Bellevue, WA, seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to advance the Natrium Generation IV Reactor design. Lead design development for reactor structures, coordinate inputs, and perform option analyses.

Requires a BS in Mechanical Eng, 8+ years of equipment design, ASME III experience, and ANSYS proficiency; SolidWorks preferred. Strong writing, communication, and multi-tasking skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of eight years of equipment/component design experience; relevant MS degree credited as two years of experience.
• Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III.
• Experience writing design specifications.
• Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
• Experience in finite element stress analysis and ANSYS-related tools.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Strong analytical/problem solving skills and creativity.
• Ability to work with minimum direction on challenging problems.
• Ability to multi-task during a work week.
• Familiarity with CAD; SolidWorks preferred.
• Trust, integrity, open communication, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design of reactor structures and components from requirements through final design.
• Coordinate inputs from Engineering and Project teams to produce design solutions.
• Perform scoping analysis and calculations for design options.
• Interface with the team's engineering analysis activities.
• Technically manage supplier activities.
• Present design results for design reviews.
• Assess technical merit of solutions and lead design reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and subcontractors.
• Support learning and advance nuclear industry best practices.
