Job summary

Medtronic is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead design, development, verification, validation, and lifecycle support of mechanical and electromechanical medical devices within the Cranial & Spinal Technologies (CST) portfolio. The role requires advanced mechanical engineering principles and collaboration across engineering, quality, manufacturing, clinical, and regulatory teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 2+ years.
  • Experience designing mechanical components using 3D modeling and drafting tools.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, risk analysis, and design controls.
  • Proven ability to solve complex engineering problems and work with cross-functional teams in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Research, plan, design, develop, verify, and validate mechanical and electromechanical products, components, assemblies, and systems.
  • Apply advanced mechanical engineering principles to solve complex product, manufacturing, and system-level challenges.
  • Develop and evaluate engineering solutions involving materials, mechanisms, controls, plastics, metals, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Perform analyses including tolerance analysis, DFMA/DFMEA, and FEA where applicable.
  • Develop and review drawings, specifications, and documentation with GD&T practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support design reviews, risk management, testing, supplier partnerships, and product improvements.
  • Serve as a technical representative for Mechanical Engineering on projects and provide status updates and risk assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and coordinate project activities and deliverables.
