Job summary

Medtronic is seeking a Senior R&D Engineer in San Diego to advance spinal implant and instrumentation products from concept through commercialization. You will translate stakeholder needs into system requirements, develop robust designs, and drive verification and validation activities with cross-functional teams.

The role demands 4+ years in mechanical engineering and medical devices, proficiency with Creo/SolidWorks, and experience with GD&T in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 4+ years of engineering design and product development experience, including 2+ years in spine/orthopedics.
  • Proficiency with Creo or SolidWorks and the ability to create engineering drawings with GD&T.
  • Experience in a regulated medical device product development environment; knowledge of FDA/ISO/QSR requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of spinal implant and instrumentation systems from concept to market release.
  • Translate VOC insights into requirements, develop system-level designs, and perform design reviews and risk assessments.
  • Plan and execute verification, validation, bench testing, and experimental evaluations to confirm product performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to support project delivery.
  • Document technical decisions, design tradeoffs, and test results; mentor junior engineers.
