Job summary

Skydio, a leading US drone company, seeks an experienced mechanical engineer to design and refine structures for autonomous flight. You will architect parts for aircraft, ground stations, and accessories, collaborating across teams for scalable production.

You will drive design from prototype to mass production, perform tests, analyze trade-offs, and work with vendors, operations, and manufacturing to ensure robust, elegant solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent with demonstrated academic excellence.
• Deep prior experience of product development with a track record of execution.
• Ability to apply analytical problem solving skills and engineering fundamentals to create high-quality designs.
• Mastery of 3D CAD, especially for complex assemblies; CATIA strongly preferred.
• Ability to design for a broad array of manufacturing processes (injection molding, metal casting, CNC machining).
• Excellent sense of rapid prototyping in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to produce well-constructed mechanical part and assembly drawings.
• Passion for elegant mechanical design across detail levels.
• Strategic mind across design, sourcing, build, validate, and ship processes; capable of making trade-off decisions.
• Obtaining FAA Part 107 certification within 60 days is encouraged and required for some roles.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical parts and assemblies for aircraft, ground stations, and key accessories from the ground-up as part of new architectures.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to shape and integrate PCBAs, flex circuits, antennas, and cable harnesses.
• Interface with vendors in partnership with operations and supply chain teams.
• Define and execute engineering tests and analyze system trade-offs to validate designs.
• Drive designs from prototyping to pre-production and mass production; support manufacturing with assembly processes and inspection criteria.
• Debug and investigate failures, pursuing root causes to the deepest level.
