Job summary

Skydio in San Mateo, CA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 0-3 years of hands-on hardware experience to design parts and assemblies for aircraft, ground stations, and accessories. You will collaborate with senior engineers and electrical teams to integrate components and run tests across the full development cycle from prototypes to production.

You will gain mentorship, hands-on exposure to hardware lifecycle, and growing ownership as you contribute to design decisions and manufacturing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 0-3 years of hands-on product or hardware experience through internships, co-ops, student teams, research, or personal projects.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to solve open-ended design problems.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (CATIA, SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or similar).
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and how they affect design decisions.
• Ability to create clear mechanical drawings or willingness to learn with mentorship.
• Curiosity, attention to detail, and love of well‑designed hardware.
• Collaborative mindset in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical parts and assemblies for aircraft, ground stations, and accessories.
• Partner with electrical engineers to integrate PCBs, flex circuits, antennas, and cable harnesses.
• Work with vendors on technical questions and part reviews with operations and supply chain.
• Plan and run engineering tests and use analysis to evaluate design trade-offs.
• Follow designs from prototypes to pre-production and mass production; support manufacturing with assembly processes and quality criteria.
• Investigate and debug failures to identify root causes.
