Job summary

Collins Aerospace in West Des Moines is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to own mechanical design activities from concept through production. You will use SolidWorks and ANSYS Workbench to validate designs and work with cross-functional teams to meet customer, quality, cost, and schedule targets.

The role involves DFMA focus, design for manufacturability, and development of maintenance concepts across the full lifecycle of aerospace products.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a STEM degree with minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with minimum 3 years of experience.
• In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience are required.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and familiarity with GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Design and review mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks, balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, safety, and quality requirements.
• Perform thermal and structural analyses using ANSYS Workbench to evaluate product performance.
• Conduct fatigue and durability assessments to develop product life predictions.
• Develop technical documentation and engineering reports and participate in design reviews.
• Collaborate within Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) to meet customer expectations and business objectives.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate design risks including FMEAs and design improvements.
• Provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle, including troubleshooting production and field issues.
