Montgomery County Government is seeking a Senior Mechanic to perform advanced maintenance, repair, and overhaul of powered vehicles and equipment. Position Overview
Advanced work involved in maintenance, repair, and overhaul of powered light, medium & heavy-duty vehicles/equipment, including gasoline and diesel engines, attached rolling stock, and related mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronically controlled systems.
Summary of Job Duties
Troubleshoots, repairs, or overhauls full range of systems, sub-systems, and major components on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment such as gasoline or diesel engines, supercharged or turbocharged engines, turbine engines, transmissions, gear reduction systems, planetary gears, pneumatic brakes, power take-offs, differentials, transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, ignition systems, charging and starting systems, emission control systems, and related electrical, electronic, hydraulic, fuel, and other systems.
Diagnoses problems and makes repairs by removing, replacing, adjusting, or cleaning defective parts or components. Replaces or repairs components such as sensors, water pumps, spark plugs, brake shoes, mufflers, radiator caps, condensers, engine gaskets, belts, hoses, and complete assemblies. Services air conditioning systems, flush radiators, replace antifreeze solutions, align front ends of vehicles, adjust brakes, transmission linkages, engine idle, voltage, and control valves, clean or replace filters, screens, batteries, cables, clamps, and services gasoline and diesel engines and related components including heating and cooling devices. Fabricates, welds, and cuts metal parts using arc welders or acetylene torches.
Services and repairs vehicles and rolling equipment inoperative in the field. Records parts used, repairs, and maintenance work. Identifies and obtains repair parts using Fleet Services protocols. Maintains an orderly, safe, and clean work area.

Additional Information
