Job summary

Collins Aerospace in the United States (US-OH-TROY) is seeking an experienced metallurgical specialist to investigate materials and manufacturing challenges for wheels & brakes structures. You will lead failure analyses, develop material specs, and support supplier evaluations in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Required STEM degree with 5+ years of related experience (or advanced degree with 3+ years). Strong problem solving and collaboration across design, quality and manufacturing are

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Failure analysis methodology experience
  • Heat treatment control and verification experience

Responsibilities

  • Executes technical investigations and supports complex materials and manufacturing challenges for wheels & brakes structures.
  • Leads metallurgical failure analysis involving cracking, fatigue, wear, and corrosion.
  • Develops or refines metallic material specifications and heat-treat process instructions.
  • Supports supplier process evaluations, audits, and capability assessments.
  • Supports development of improvements to materials, coatings, and corrosion prevention systems.
  • Evaluates forging quality, grain flow, defects, and machining-related anomalies.
