Job summary

Copeland is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer for its Metallurgical Engineering lab in Sidney, OH. The role emphasizes metallurgy, failure analysis, and reporting to support global operations.

The candidate will lead analytical work, mentor staff, and collaborate with production, quality, and suppliers to drive root-cause resolution and continuous improvement. Onsite work with travel up to 5% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering or closely related field.
• 10+ years of metallurgical engineering experience in manufacturing or R&D.
• Hands-on metallurgy sample preparation and metallographic analysis.
• Experience with SEM, optical microscopy, metallograph, and hardness testing equipment.
• Strong failure analysis methodologies.
• Excellent technical writing and reporting skills.
• Industry experience in foundry or steel/metallurgy environments.
• US work authorization; sponsorship not available.

Responsibilities

• Prepare metallurgical samples for analysis following lab standards.
• Perform SEM, XRF, optical microscopy to characterize microstructure and composition.
• Lead and support failure analysis investigations and root cause actions.
• Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment; coordinate repairs.
• Write detailed technical reports for engineering, quality and operations.
• Partner with production, quality, engineering, and suppliers to resolve issues.
• Support continuous improvement in material quality and product reliability.
• Ensure laboratory practices meet safety and quality standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians in metallurgical techniques.
