Job Description

Position Title: Senior Material and Process Engineer

Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract opportunity for a Senior Material and Process Engineer.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Lead technical development of suppliers to increase technology readiness levels of key materials and components for the core of the reactor.
  2. Develop material and process specifications for vital, specialized materials (e.g., HT9, Grade 92, nickel-base alloys, austenitic stainless steels) and product forms (billet, bar, rod, wire, heavy-walled tube, small diameter tubing).
  3. Collaborate with prospective and current suppliers to define material and process specifications, and advise the design team on component drawings/specifications to ensure product performance aligns with design requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
  4. Support supplier selection activities through requests for proposals (RFPs) and review/selection processes.
  5. Provide direction and oversight of supplier projects, working with contract administrators and project engineers to ensure timely delivery of data and other required deliverables.
  6. Coordinate technical reviews of supplier deliverables and ensure appropriate responses.
  7. Assist with supplier audits in accordance with ASME NQA-1-2015 standards.
  8. Design and execute test programs to evaluate manufacturing variability effects on material properties and performance.

Job Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 6 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years with a Master’s degree. A degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  2. Strong understanding of metallurgy, including fabrication and thermomechanical processing of ferrous (e.g., ferritic-martensitic steels) and nonferrous (e.g., nickel-base) alloys.
  3. Proven skills in developing requirements specifications, defining supplier technical scopes, including development of SOWs, RFPs, and providing technical oversight of supplier projects.
  4. Experience working within stringent quality systems (e.g., NQA-1, ISO-9001, AS9100) is preferred.
  5. Basic knowledge of reactor plant design and related systems; experience with sodium-cooled fast reactors is a plus.
  6. Ability to work independently to solve challenging problems.
  7. Position level and title will be determined based on qualifications.
  8. The ideal candidate will demonstrate trust and integrity, communicate openly, show respect, and foster teamwork.

Job Details:

  • Type: Contract
  • Location: Bellevue, WA
  • Pay Range: $72-$90/hr
  • Candidates must be U.S. Citizens, Legal Permanent Residents, or of protected status due to export control regulations.
