Responsibilities
The Senior Specialist, Earned Media supports the strategic communication goals of Mayo Clinic Platform (MCP) and Mayo Clinic International (MCI) by securing and elevating high-impact media coverage that enhances brand reputation, thought leadership, and stakeholder engagement globally. This role focuses on identifying compelling stories, engaging with media outlets and journalists, and supporting proactive and reactive media relations in alignment with enterprise communications priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development and implementation of earned media strategies tailored to support MCP’s innovation and MCI’s global market growth and visibility.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, MCP and MCI leadership, and content teams to source and shape stories that demonstrate thought leadership, clinical excellence, patient impact, and digital innovation.
- Draft compelling media materials including press releases, talking points, media briefs, and Q&As that reflect institutional voice and messaging consistency.
- Identify, pitch, and place high-value media opportunities in top-tier global, regional, and trade outlets.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers covering healthcare, health technology, AI, and global health trends.
- Support issues response and media inquiries in coordination with the Director of Communications for Issues and Reputation Management..
- Monitor media coverage and sentiment for emerging issues, regional sensitivities, and reputational risk, providing timely reports and recommendations.
- Track and report on earned media outcomes, coverage quality, reach, and message pull-through using appropriate media analytics tools
- Ensure alignment with enterprise media relations.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field plus 3 years of relevant work experience. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages, and aligns with organizational strategy. Knowledge of channels for communication and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results. Requires an attitude that actively seeks out change, embraces critical questioning, innovation, service and continuous improvement. Must understand how to deal with and navigate ambiguity, and act without having the total picture. Adaptable or flexible.
