Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for Market Data to build and operate real-time data systems that power institutional trading. You will design low-latency components, connect to venues, and ensure reliable data pipelines across the platform.

In this role, you will ship features end-to-end, maintain production systems, and collaborate with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to advance Coinbase's institutional trading roadmap.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience building low-latency systems.
• Hands-on experience with market data infrastructure (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution).
• Proficiency in low-latency Java (or C++) and high-throughput messaging frameworks (Aeron, SBE, or similar).
• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Track record shipping features end-to-end and operating in production.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency.

As a Senior Data Engineer, Market Data on the Institutional Markets team, you'll build and operate the systems that capture, normalize, and distribute real-time market data across Coinbase at low latency - the feed handlers, venue connectors, and distribution layer that form the backbone of a unified trading platform.

*Pay Transparency Notice:** *Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):

$191,250—$225,000 USD
