Job summary

Ocean Atomics is seeking an experienced Electrical System Designer to develop and integrate the shipboard electrical power system for nuclear applications. You will specify equipment, define design basis, and lead safety-related distribution work within a naval-architecture context.

The role requires extensive experience with design reports, verification packages, and cross-discipline coordination to ensure compliant, reliable power systems for critical plant loads on vessels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years electrical power system design experience on nuclear/marine power systems.
  • Knowledge of safety-related electrical design requirements (Class 1E) and redundancy.
  • Experience with ETAP/SKM/EasyPower and protective device coordination.
  • Experience with DC systems, batteries, chargers, inverters, and vital distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical power system design from requirements to schematics and equipment specs.
  • Define design basis: voltage, load, safety class, life, duty cycle, codes.
  • Design distribution: switchgear, MCCs, vital AC/DC, batteries, chargers, inverters.
  • Produce design specs and reports, lead design reviews and config control.
  • Define vessel interfaces and cable routing across watertight and shielding boundaries.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and support outfitting and testing.
