Job summary

RiverTech, an Akima company, seeks a Top-Level Engine Mariner SME to support the US Coast Guard MCP at the National Maritime Center in Martinsburg, WV. The role requires senior merchant mariner credentials and deep propulsion knowledge.

You will evaluate course/program applications, review engineering policies, participate in design reviews, and assist in developing training materials. Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Public Trust suitability determination.
• Must hold or have previously held a U.S. Coast Guard-issued MMC endorsed as Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer.
• Minimum of five (5) years of sailing experience under the qualifying credential.
• Ability to apply real-world maritime engineering experience to technical analysis and program requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical audiences.
• Ability to collaborate with U.S. Coast Guard personnel, government stakeholders, contractors, engineers, instructional designers, and other SMEs.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level maritime SME expertise as Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer to evaluate course/program applications.
• Review and provide input on engineering policies, procedures, manuals and SOPs.
• Participate in technical meetings, design reviews and program discussions as the senior SME.
• Support development, review and validation of maritime training materials and assessments.
• Provide recommendations on engineering personnel qualifications, watchstanding responsibilities, and maintenance practices.
• Research maritime regulations, Coast Guard policies, and industry practices to support activities.
• Comply with Coast Guard policies and program requirements.
