Job summary

RINA is recruiting for a San Diego Marine Senior Surveyor to join its San Diego office within the North America Marine Division. The Senior Surveyor applies maritime rules and industry principles to ensure accurate, high-quality surveying processes and reports.

Responsibilities include planning surveys, coordinating phases of work, guiding junior surveyors, engaging with clients to resolve issues, and maintaining ethical standards across all surveys.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Surveyor or 6+ years in engineering/inspection with an IACS member Classification Society.
• Understanding of RINA strategic technical positioning in the marine sector.
• Proficiency in English suitable for classification and certification tasks.
• Ability to learn RINA Rules, Guides, regulations and safety policy.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and shipbuilding practices.
• Ability to perform: new building surveys, ship in service surveys, audits, testing and supplier certification.
• Knowledge of ship engineering systems and machinery.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a professional specialist applying in-depth knowledge of Rules, Regulations, and industry concepts.
• Keeps abreast of new developments and recommends changes to surveying processes and safety programs.
• Conducts routine surveys on classed ships, offshore installations, or marine assets to ensure compliance with classification and statutory requirements.
• Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys.
• Plans, schedules, and coordinates various phases of surveying work.
• Monitors the quality of service, providing guidance to less experienced surveyors.
• Engages with clients to solve problems within the area of expertise.
• Provides guidance and training to less experienced surveyors.
• Ensures quality, content, consistency and continuity of work.
• Upholds the highest ethical standards in survey processes.
