Job summary

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering and 5 years of experience, or 15+ years in the field with 5 years at engineer level. You will oversee complete system design from concept to production for marine ventilation and air conditioning.

You will mentor peers, interface with design, production, and program teams, and ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited university and 5 years of experience OR 15+ years of relevant industry experience with 5 years at Engineer level.
• Knowledge of SNAME 4-16, ASHRAE, or similar design criteria.
• Knowledge of marine insulation, machinery ventilation, and air conditioning.

Responsibilities

• Perform necessary calculations to validate design and submit required reports to classification society and/or customer.
• Use computer-assisted engineering software to design products or systems.
• Support all production and testing activities.
• Plan and execute complex tasks, own larger problem sets, evaluate design trade-offs, and identify risks.
• Author engineering documents and prepare purchase technical specifications.
• Interface actively with design, production, and program teams.
• Mentor peers, guide production with field-related issues/concerns, and review designs.
• Direct designers in the development of functional drawings.
• Coordinate activities involved in fabrication, operation, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems for use onboard vessels.
• Research and analyze data to determine feasibility of a design or application.
• Guide personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of testing methods and procedures.
• Ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
• Design products to interface machines, hardware, and software, including controls, engines, machines, and thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems.
