Job summary

Serco Inc. is seeking a Senior Marine Engineer for the Maritime Engineering Operation (MEO) in Arlington, VA.

The role focuses on designing and reviewing ship systems, propulsion, and auxiliary networks, coordinating naval architecture and other engineering disciplines to achieve robust designs. The position requires a ABET-accredited Marine Engineering degree and 10+ years of progressive experience, with the ability to travel up to 10% and obtain a secret clearance.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Marine Engineering or related field (e.g., Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering)
• 10+ years of related and progressive experience in marine engineering
• Knowledge of government contracting environments and technical/scientific services
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with technical audiences
• Willingness to travel up to 10% and obtain/maintain a secret clearance
• Experience with design integration across naval architecture and structures
• Ability to work with regulatory bodies and industry standards

Responsibilities

• Perform auxiliary, fluid, mechanical, engine, and propulsion system design or review
• Lead development and validation of design requirements and specifications
• Coordinate inputs across disciplines to establish machinery spaces and principal characteristics
• Lead studies for auxiliary fluid systems (fuel, seawater, water, etc.) and for equipment (pumps, motors, HVAC)
• Support DD&C through design phases and construction activities
• Provide onsite engineering support at test sites and shipyards
• Review machinery arrangements and assist in layouts and maintenance analyses
• Conduct failure analyses and propose engineering changes or reports
• Prepare documentation, reports, and project plans; present formal briefings
• Support budgeting, cost estimation, and project planning
