The American Medical Association is seeking a Manuscript Operations Specialist II to join the Scientific Publication team in a hybrid role, with three days per week in the Chicago office. You will review manuscripts edited by freelance editors, ensure compliance with AMA standards, and help improve content quality for publication.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's in a related field, 3+ years copyediting experience in medical/scientific publications, and strong communication and coordination

Formación

• Bachelor's degree required, preferably English, journalism, communications, sciences, or mathematics.
• Minimum 3 years of related copyediting experience for medical/scientific publications.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with editors, authors, and staff; meeting deadlines.
• Familiarity with AMA Manual of Style, electronic editing software, web-based content management systems, and an email-intensive environment; experience with Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate, prioritize, review others' work, and stay flexible in a fast-paced, deadline-driven unit.
• Must be able to work independently and meet publication deadlines.

Responsabilidades

• Review manuscripts edited by freelance editors and evaluate proficiency of copyeditors and copyreaders.
• Ensure manuscripts comply with standards for published scientific research.
• Assist editors in improving quality of reporting and ensuring clarity, accuracy, readability, and integrity.
• Maintain AMA style, editorial policies, and deadlines; implement new guidance for editors.
• Follow up on queries noted by copyreaders, proofreaders, and managing editors.
• Move content through editing and production quickly and within deadlines; update CMS at each stage.
• Alert editors to major editorial problems that could affect publication dates.
• Investigate errors in published articles and ensure corrections are made.
• Edit technical medical articles, abstracts, and features using XML-based publishing system.
• May include other responsibilities as assigned
