Job summary

Collins Aerospace, a leader in advanced manufacturing for aerospace and defense, seeks a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to develop and implement standardized processes across multiple sites, including Cedar Rapids, Phoenix, and Charlotte. Onsite role with potential relocation assistance and up to 20% travel.

Qualifications

  • Degree in STEM with minimum 8 years of related experience, or an advanced degree with minimum 5 years.
  • Experience developing or maintaining standard work, manufacturing processes, and technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing methods (assembly, machining, electronics, testing, or similar).
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (ACE, Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to creation, improvement, and maintenance of manufacturing standards, processes, work instructions, and related documentation.
  • Support alignment of manufacturing standards with digital transformation initiatives, including MES, PLM, and digital work instruction platforms.
  • Assist in developing workforce capability models, skills matrices, certification criteria, and technical training processes.
  • Evaluate current manufacturing practices to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide technical expertise in modern manufacturing methods and digital tools.
  • Support implementation of standard processes, tooling strategies, and manufacturing capability improvements across sites.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure consistent deployment of manufacturing best practices.
  • Contribute to team planning, continuous improvement activities, and roadmap execution.
