Job summary

AeroVironment is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer III to design and operate the manufacturing systems for its Unmanned Air Vehicles. You will select technologies, plan the factory, and drive maintenance and continuous improvement of the manufacturing process.

Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and electro-mechanical manufacturing is required. Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks) and BOM management is essential to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or similar field or equivalent experience.
• 5–8 years in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Test Engineering or similar in aerospace/auto/commercial industries.
• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience required.
• Experience with electro-mechanical manufacturing, drawings, procedures and BOMs.
• Proficient with MS Office, MiniTab, Oracle, Agile; CAD tools incl. SolidWorks.
• Occasional travel to supplier sites up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Create and manage equipment specifications and documentation for development, qualification and support of production equipment.
• Apply Lean and Six Sigma to improve productivity, quality and lead times.
• Generate Value Stream Maps to reduce cycle time and waste.
• Develop manufacturing strategies and capacity models for products; manage capital requisitions.
• Create and review work instructions and assembly procedures; control manufacturing processes.
• Cost estimate tooling and fixtures; lead Make/Buy analyses with cross-functional teams.
• Perform DFx, cost and reliability analyses with design engineering.
• Coordinate with suppliers and contract manufacturers for conformance.
