Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III to design and operate advanced manufacturing systems for our unmanned air vehicles. You will select best technologies, plan factory layouts, and drive maintenance and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.

You will apply Lean and Six Sigma to reduce cycle time, improve quality, and lower waste, while collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams on new product introductions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or similar field or equivalent experience.
• 5–8 years in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Test Engineering or similar in aerospace/auto/commercial sectors.
• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience required.
• Experience with electro-mechanical manufacturing, drawings, BOMs.
• Proficient with Office apps, MiniTab, Oracle, Agile, CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
• Travel to supplier sites up to 30% may be required.
• Advanced degree preferred; experience with sheet metal, plastics, composites, PCB assembly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Creates and manages equipment specs and documentation for development, qualification and production support.
• Implements Lean and Six Sigma to improve productivity, quality and lead time.
• Generates Value Stream Maps to reduce cycle time and waste.
• Develops manufacturing strategies and capital models for new/current products.
• Reviews and creates work instructions and assembly procedures controlling manufacturing.
• Cost estimating for tooling and fixtures to support production.
• Leads Make/Buy analyses with cross-functional teams.
• Performs Design for Manufacturing and reliability analysis with design engineers.
• Collaborates with suppliers/CMs to ensure conforming parts and assemblies.
• Fulfills other duties as assigned.
