Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III to design and operate manufacturing systems for unmanned air vehicles. You will select technologies and processes, plan factory layout, and lead maintenance and continuous improvement of processes.

The role requires strong knowledge of manufacturing production processes, automated systems, and new technology development to support Small UAV manufacturing. Travel up to 30% is possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or similar field required or equivalent
• 5–8 years in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Test Engineering or similar in aerospace, automotive, or commercial industries
• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience required
• Experience with electro-mechanical manufacturing, drawings, procedures and Bills of Materials required
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Access, Project), MiniTab, Oracle, Agile, and CAD programs (SolidWorks preferred)
• Up to 30% travel to supplier sites may be required

Responsibilities

• Create and manage equipment specifications and documentation for development, qualification and support of assembly and test equipment
• Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to drive productivity, quality and lead-time improvements
• Generate Value Stream Maps to reduce cycle time, waste and variation
• Develop manufacturing strategies and capital models for new and existing products
• Create and review work instructions and procedures controlling the manufacturing process
• Lead Make/Buy analyses and cost estimates for tooling and fixtures
• Perform DFx, cost and reliability analyses with design engineering
• Coordinate with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure conforming parts
• Handle diverse problems requiring data-driven analysis
• Other duties as assigned
