Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to work at the Des Plaines, IL location within Abbott Molecular Diagnostics. The role involves supporting manufacturing equipment, troubleshooting issues, and leading continuous improvement initiatives.

You will validate equipment, manage change control, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust processes, training, and data-driven decisions. A strong engineering background and hands-on experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field (preferably Mechanical or Electrical)
• 6+ years related experience
• Experience with equipment troubleshooting and reliability improvement

Responsibilities

• Support manufacturing process equipment impacting operations.
• Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical/electrical equipment issues; identify root causes and implement solutions.
• Implement continuous improvements on existing equipment to improve reliability, yield, uptime, and efficiency.
• Validate automated manufacturing equipment, draft validation protocols and reports; execute validation tests (IQ/OQ/PQ).
• Lead CAPA investigations and document actions in the electronic CAPA system.
• Transfer new product requirements to manufacturing with hands-on technical support; develop Six Sigma processes.
• Collaborate with suppliers, operations, technicians, and QA to troubleshoot lines and return to production.
• Manage equipment change control and execute validation activities for changes.
• Monitor production for improvements and address potential issues proactively.
• Collect maintenance and performance data; perform analysis.
• Mentor technicians and junior engineers; provide technical training and improve training materials.
