About the Role

Perform a variety of engineering work in planning and developing products, tools, fixtures, equipment, and processes. Products and projects will be focused on the in-chamber semiconductor space affecting the processing of semiconductor wafers. Primary focus on new product development and taking those projects from concept phase to pilot production.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Working closely with customer engineering teams to develop in-chamber bonding solutions
  • Design and development necessary tooling for NPD projects
  • Ability to develop products and processes with varying customer requirements in mind
  • Focuses on improving products or processes that impact one or more technical areas or across multiple locations/facilities
  • Identifies opportunities for new products or processes
  • Interacts with internal customers and existing and potential external customers/suppliers
  • Works independently or in teams under general direction or minimum supervision
  • Ability to work on and solve very complex problems with occasional assistance of peers and/or technical leaders
  • Arranges for review of own technical work product as needed
  • Directs and monitors the work of less experienced employees
  • Encourages and assists less experienced engineers with knowledge capture
  • Models desired Watlow Way and lean product development values, principles and behaviors
  • Ability to lead major projects and minor projects at the same time
  • Defines scope, objectives, vision and activities of assigned projects based on user needs, and leads project activities
  • Coordinates activities of team members working projects
  • Determines scope, budget, and implementation timeframes of assigned projects
  • Owns the results of projects served and encourages other project participants to own project results
  • Understands the financial aspects of projects (resulting value stream profitability) and acts accordingly
  • Demonstrates in-depth technical expertise in assigned area
  • Knows and applies broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of multiple technical specialty areas
  • Assists more junior engineers with the capture of new knowledge
  • Advanced mastery of advanced systematic/ creative problem-solving tools
  • Assists more junior engineers in the use of creative problem-solving tools
  • Advanced understanding of lean product development tools and principles
  • Has in-depth level of understanding of the business or function being supported and shares this knowledge with others
  • Participates in environment of customer and voice of customer activities to influence identification of customer needs/opportunity
  • Assures customer needs are central to projects served

Product & Process Development:

  • Identify applicable agency and market needs and define appropriate design specifications
  • Support market research
  • Perform cost analysis of designs
  • Lead the application of lean product development methods and tools in the completion of projects
  • Lead the creation of new knowledge and the conversion of new learning into explicit knowledge for others to use


Product & Process Design and Testing:

  • Understand customer needs and design new products and processes to serve those needs
  • Define and specify product architecture and design approaches
  • Propose and develop new design automation tools and systems
  • Define test requirements and specify test plans
  • Manage agency certification activities for new products (UL, CE, CSA, VDE, etc.)
  • Conduct analysis and evaluation of competitive products and services
  • Develop or revise appropriate safety policies and procedures based on new product/process designs


Quality Assurance:

  • Perform technical peer review of new designs and processes
  • Approve analyses of failed or returned materials and corrective action plans and procedures
  • Define disposition criteria for non-conforming products, materials, and components
  • Qualify new sources of products, materials, and components
  • Develop and improve relationships with suppliers and subcontractors


Technical Support:

  • Train inside and outside sales personnel on product applications


Coaching / Mentoring:

  • Actively develop other employees through coaching and feedback, job assignments and rotation, and on-the-job training
  • Coach teams on application of the scientific method, systems thinking, creative problem solving and the development of trade-off curves



Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineer degree with 4 or more years of experience working in NPD/NPI
  • Preferred: Experience working in the semiconductor industry
