Base pay range
$175,000.00/yr - $235,000.00/yr
Matternet designs, builds, and operates autonomous drone networks that enable ultra-fast, low-cost, and zero-emission package delivery.
We are looking for a Manufacturing Operations Lead to manage and optimize our in-house production and supply chain functions. This role calls for a proactive leader who can oversee day-to-day manufacturing activities, coordinate purchasing, inventory, and production control, and ensure the timely delivery of our product. You will lead and grow a small team, fostering collaboration and operational excellence, while also serving as the key point of contact for subcontractors. Your ability to manage both internal operations and external manufacturing relationships will be critical to maintaining quality, meeting schedules, and controlling costs. This position requires a hands-on, technically skilled professional who can drive continuous improvement and support Matternet's strategic growth in drone manufacturing.
You will:
- Develop and execute Matternet's manufacturing strategy to meet current and future production demands
- Manage all supply chain functions including purchasing, inventory control, and production scheduling to guarantee timely availability of materials and components
- Lead and grow the team responsible for production, maintenance, and test engineering, promoting teamwork and operational excellence
- Coordinate implementation of changes to design and process to ensure smooth transition between revisions of parts and products
- Act as the key point of contact for subcontractors and manufacturing partners, ensuring alignment on quality, schedule, and cost objectives
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across all manufacturing processes, leveraging lean manufacturing principles and data-driven analysis to optimize efficiency and reduce waste
- Collaborate closely with Engineering and Operations teams to resolve any manufacturing-related challenges
- Optimize the manufacturing space including material storage, product flow, and line layouts
- Design and implement jigs, fixtures, and manufacturing aids
- Provide feedback to Engineering teams to improve product designs for manufacturability
Requirements
- Proven experience in manufacturing operations with a strong emphasis on hands-on production and integrated supply chain management
- Solid expertise in production planning, inventory control, and purchasing logistics to ensure timely and cost-effective material flow
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to supervise and develop a small team encompassing production and supply chain functions
- Experience collaborating with subcontractors and managing relationships with manufacturing partners
- Proficiency in manufacturing process documentation, test engineering, assembly procedures, and quality control standards
- Strong problem-solving capabilities with a track record of effectively managing escalations in supply chain and production environments
- Excellent communication skills to facilitate clear coordination between internal teams and external partners across different regions
- Adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced startup setting, managing multiple priorities and evolving operational demands
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with contract manufacturers
- Experience with UAV systems, autopilot hardware, and flight controls
- Familiarity with applicable industry standards
- Experience in power electronics and battery management systems
- Knowledge of software development and firmware integration
- Experience with ESD-EOS control, and production test equipment and processes
- Experience with Arena PLM and SAP BusinessbyDesign ERP systems
Work Environment:
- This is an onsite role with opportunities for hands-on work in a manufacturing setting
