Job summary

Clarios in Saint Joseph, MO, is seeking an experienced Electrical/Manufacturing Engineer to advance automation, process improvements, and capital projects at the St. Joseph Assembly Plant.

You will partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality and Division Engineering to implement robust, scalable solutions. The role emphasizes PLC/Allen-Bradley control systems, HMI development, SCADA, and robotics with Six Sigma and lean experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field required.
  • 5+ years engineering experience in manufacturing.
  • Advanced PLC programming and ladder logic experience.
  • Experience developing/troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs & HMIs.
  • Proficiency with automation software (RSLogix 500/5000, FactoryTalk View, PanelBuilder32).
  • Experience with Lean, Kaizen, Pareto analysis, and RCA.
  • Proficient with Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience managing multiple projects in manufacturing automation.

Responsibilities

  • Drive manufacturing process and equipment improvements to boost safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement downtime-reducing improvements; lower maintenance costs.
  • Provide engineering, automation, and controls support for operations and capital projects.
  • Monitor processes/equipment to meet quality and standards; lead root-cause investigations.
  • Support Lean/Six Sigma/Kaizen initiatives and cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate with teams to identify optimization opportunities and implement solutions.
  • Assist in introducing new equipment and production system changes.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and regulatory requirements.

This position is located in St. Joseph DAP

What You Will Do
  • Drive continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment to enhance safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to reduce downtime, minimize variation, improve equipment uptime, and lower maintenance costs.
  • Provide engineering, automation, and controls support for manufacturing operations, maintenance activities, and capital projects.
  • Monitor manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, and automation systems to ensure performance meets quality and engineering standards.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions for recurring equipment and process issues.
  • Support plant-wide continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen activities.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Division Engineering teams to implement engineering solutions that improve plant performance.
  • Assist in the implementation of new equipment, process changes, specifications, and production system improvements.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes and equipment comply with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
How You Will Do It
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies such as Pareto Analysis, Cause-and-Effect Analysis, Multivariable Analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Develop, modify, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC programs, HMI applications, robotics systems, and automation controls.
  • Provide technical leadership and engineering support for manufacturing optimization, automation, and capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Analyze manufacturing performance data to drive uptime improvements and variation reduction initiatives.
  • Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of SCADA systems for process control and production data management.
  • Communicate project status, engineering requirements, and process changes with plant and corporate engineering stakeholders.
  • Prioritize multiple engineering projects while effectively utilizing available resources to meet plant objectives.
What We Look For
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related field).
  • Minimum of five (2) years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced experience with PLC programming and ladder logic.
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLC programs and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Proficiency with automation and controls software such as RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk View, PanelBuilder32, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies including Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Pareto Analysis, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience managing multiple manufacturing, automation, and process optimization projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Experience with robotics programming, troubleshooting, and diagnostics (Fanuc and/or Denso preferred).
  • Experience using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Experience with Cognex Insight and Keyence Vision Systems.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and programming SCADA systems for manufacturing process control and data management.
  • Six Sigma certification or demonstrated experience leading Six Sigma projects.
  • Experience implementing capital equipment and automation improvement projects within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
